Request for government to subsidise 1.8 million tonnes of exports: The government should allow the exports of 1.8 million tonnes surplus sugar with a subsidy of PKR12 (US$0.11)-PKR15 per kg, Sindh Abadgar Board (SAB) said on Thursday, according to Pakistan's Dawn newspaper. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, SAB President Abdul Majeed Nizamani said Sindh, Punjab and KP produced around 7.047 million tonnes sugar in 2016/17. With carryover stock of 950,000 tonnes, total sugar holding is 7.997 million tonnes.
