Coops oppose any further extension to raw sugar imports: Cooperative sugar mills have opposed any further duty-free raw sugar imports or extension of the time limit for import of the already allowed 500,000 metric tonnes quantity beyond June 30, "The country's production in the 2016/17 sugar season (October-September) will be 20 million tonnes. Adding opening stocks of 7.7 million tonnes and imports of 500,000 tonnes takes the total availability of sugar to 28.2 million tonnes. After deducting estimated consumption of 24.0 million tonnes, we will start the next season with stocks of 4.2 million tonnes, which is comfortable enough",
