Upcountry growers urged to plan wheat harvesting

The Met Office has said that the farmers of upcountry should chalk out plans for wheat harvesting keeping in view the dry weather ahead. It said that wheat harvesting has completed in Sindh, but farmers of the upcountry are set to obtain the crop yield. It said that sandstorm is expected to hit in areas where wheat crop is matured, adding that the farmers should accordingly take steps to protect the grains and residue after harvesting.

"Removing weeds from the standing crops is very important as weeds utilise moisture and food which are to be utilised by the crop. As a result considerable loss in yield occurs every year," the Met said in its 10-day advisory ending on April 30. It said that light to moderate rain is expected in upper parts of Punjab while hot and dry weather is likely across the agricultural plains of Sindh. In Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, it said that light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated places. Dry weather is likely in the most parts of Balochistan except upper parts where light to moderate rain may fall.
