The groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) belongs to legumes species family (Fabaceae). The ground nut was first cultivated in the valleys of Peru. It is an annual herbaceous Plant of 30-50 cm tall. Groundnut is widely cultivated as an important oil seed crop and a prime commercial crop in China, India, African Nations, and United States of America. China leads in production of groundnut, having a share of about 41.5% of overall world production, followed by India (18.2%) and United States of America (6.8%). It is grown in tropical and subtropical, temperate regions.
